One of the first generation banks in Nigeria, the First Bank of Nigeria (FBN) Plc in conjunction with the Adeyemi College of Education (ACE) Ondo, Management Information System (MIS) Unit, has organized a two-day seminar on empowerment and job creations for staff and students of the College.





The seminar which held on Wednesday July 13 and Thursday July 14, 2016 respectively was attended by students from all the five schools in the College which include Languages, Arts and Social Sciences, Education, Science as well as Vocational and Technical Education.
Similarly, the programme was also attended by teaching and non-teaching staff from various departments and units.
Addressing participants at the beginning of the seminar, a lecturer in the College, who is alsothe Assistant Director of the MIS,, Dr. Kehinde Adenegan, explained that the programme was organized in order to create opportunities for staff and students to get necessary information on how to find alternative means of generating additional income that could help in augmenting their earnings
.He explained that the need for people to seek alternative means of generating income could not have come at a better time than now, in view of the current economic situation in the country. Adenegan, who is a lecturer in the Department of Mathematics, School of Science in the institution, stated that officials of FBN Plc were chosen to handle the seminar, because of their vast experience and the rising profile of the bank as one of the leading financial institutions in Nigeria.
The lecturer commended the College Management under the leadership of the Provost, Prof. Olukoya Joseph Ogen, for approving the seminar. He assured participants that they would benefit from the seminar and enjoined them to pay maximum attention to the information that would be given to them.
In his presentation while speaking on a topic entitled : ''Employment, business start up, business growth in the Infomation Communication Technology age for Young and Knowledgeable People'', Mr. Adelakun Olubusuyi, a Senior official of the FBN Plc from its Yaba, Ondo branch who led a 15-member delegation to the seminar, explained that his organisation (FBN Plc), decided to collaborate with the ACE MIS, in order to assist students to gain knowledge on ways through which they would be able to generate income, that would augment their earnings, in the face of dwindling resources currently being experienced in the country. Adelakun lamented what he observed as the inability of some employers of labour to pay workers salary as well as closure of some business organizations in the country in recent time, stating that the development has brought untold hardship and affected the economy negatively.
On ways through which the problem could bemitigated, Adelakun, who is alsothe Business Manager, FBN Plc, Yaba, Ondo branch, advised participants to take advantage of what he described as ‘’tailor-made financial products’’ available in his bank, which he said could help achieve their dreams and meet their immediate goals.
The FBN senior official also took participants through the rudiments of Marketing and urged them to take advantage of various opportunities being rolled out by his bank, through which they could earn income without stress, in any part of the country including the rural areas. He listed some of the financial products available to include First Mobile banking platform, First Monie, First e-Connect, First Online as well asFirst Savings Plus, First Exclusive Current Account, First Pay link, PayPal and Auto/ Home loan facility to mention a few.
While encouraging participants to embrace self-reliance as a means of alleviating poverty, Adelakun assured the readiness of his organisation to continue to partner with the College, in its effort at improving the welfare of its workers.
The programme held at the Grace Obongawan Lecture theatre which featured some practical demonstration of the bank’s product application through on-line device, was attended by some senior officials of the college including the Deputy Director, Internal Audit, Mr. O.I Abimbola.
Others present were Mr. Adegboyega Elumaro, Business Manager, Sabo, Ondo Branch FBN Plc; Charlse Egbe, e-Business Manager, FBN Plc, Lagos; Olokuntoye Tinuke, Relationship Officer, FBN Plc, Ondo.
Also in attendance were Olayinka Abel, IT Officer, FBN Plc. Lagos; Peluola Oluwatosin, Marketing Associate, Ondo; Marta Gorge and Kolawole Ayodele, Relationship Officers. Other officers of the bank present at the seminar include Bolaji Olufunso, Betiku Jerome, Ayantoye Wasiu as well as Fashina Bukola, Maruf Abass, Taye Akinbobola and Olayemi Annah.
